- SELF-ASSESSMENT

This free self-assessment tool is underpinned by a number of key questions and criteria aimed at understanding and recommending how to best embed good design principles into an organisation to deliver greater impact.

Responses are structured as a tiered scoring system allowing organisations to self-assess where design is currently being used and offers guidance for further reflection and areas for improvement.

All information is confidential, and data is encrypted and stored securely on a dedicated instance of Amazon Web Services (AWS) located in Australia.

The Australian Design Council de-identifies all business data to include in an annual Design Impact Report.

The Self-Assessment acts as an initial trigger to raise awareness of how design can deliver greater impact, whereas the Design Capability Evaluation provides the practical steps on how this can be achieved.

WE ARE CURRENTLY PILOTING THE DESIGN IMPACT REVIEW PROGRAM WITH A NUMBER OF AUSTRALIAN BUSINESSES ACROSS KEY SECTORS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PILOT PROGRAM, PLEASE CONTACT US.

- DESIGN CAPABILITY EVALUATION

The Design Capability Evaluation  is conducted by independent Design Experts that evaluate an organisation’s Design Maturity and how they are Designing for Impact across three key pillars.

Organisations that meet the criteria for Design Capability will be included in the Australian Design Council’s Australian Design Index and may qualify to use the Australian Design Council’s Design-led Business trademark as a signifier of design-led capability.

Organisations must compete an online submission form and answer a series of structured questions to demonstrate Design Maturity and Designing for Impact.

Independent Design Experts review submissions with the organisation to verify the answers and make a final assessment.

For organisations that do not meet the criteria, recommendations will be provided to enhance their design capability where they can re-submit within a six-month period.

Organisations who represent excellence in Design Maturity and Design Impact are eligible to be considered for the Australian Design Council’s Design Impact Award.

INDUSTRY SECTOR DESIGN IMPACT REVIEWS

Design capability creates a forum for collaboration where teams can consider clarity on what problem they are solving and whether they have all the knowledge to deliver the right solution.

The Industry Sector Design Impact Review is a cohort-based approach designed to embed and align design capability into multiple businesses aligned to a specific industry sector challenge.

This approach aims to embed and align professional design into policy, programs and business strategies to amplify their impact and maximise return on investment for a specific industry sector.

Organisations who undertake an Industry Sector Design Impact Review will be eligible for inclusion on the Australian Design Index.

NATIONAL DESIGN CHALLENGES

The National Design Challenge is a strategic framework that unites designers, industry leaders, government, and communities to address Australia’s most significant and complex national challenges.

These challenges span critical issues such as the housing crisis, an aging population, the transition to a low-carbon economy, disadvantaged youth, and plastic waste management. e.g. How might we use design capability to create better solutions and outcomes for homeless people?

This initiative leverages Australia’s world-class design capabilities to ensure that the right problems are identified and addressed with effective, design-led solutions.

The framework brings together multidisciplinary teams to critically examine prevailing assumptions, reframe challenges, and uncover new opportunities for impactful and scalable solutions. By embedding design into policymaking and problem-solving, the initiative fosters innovation, resilience, and long-term positive change across key national priorities.
